There are many ways to help!

MAISI does a lot of programs for technical research and AI governance careers, but there are many other important career paths for AI safety! Mostly copying from 80,000 Hours:

• Operations management to help impactful organizations grow and function as effectively as possible

• Research management at an AI safety research organization

• Working in information security to protect AI (or the results of key experiments) from misuse, theft, or tampering

• Becoming an expert in AI hardware as a way of steering AI progress in safer directions

• Forecasting research and implementation to predict future advances in AI and improve human judgment on decisions related to AI

• Working in communication roles, e.g. journalism

• Founding new initiatives aimed at reducing risks from advanced AI

• Being a grantmaker to fund promising projects focused on reducing catastrophic AI risk

• Helping to build communities of people working on this problem — joining the MAISI leadership team is a great way to start (:

• Being an executive assistant to someone who’s doing really important work on safety and governance

• Graphic design and video creation to make technical AI safety research easier to understand (e.g. animations for interpretability concepts)

• And more, including neuroscience, philosophy, or simply donating money to organizations working on AI safety
